Monster Farm Jump
For anyone who does not know, Monster Farm is the Japanese name for Monster Rancher, a fairly popular game for the Playstation.  It involves raising and battling monsters.  But this game does not involve any raising or any battling.  It is a spin-off of sorts of the Monster Ranch series.  It uses some of the monsters from the game but that is about all it has in common.  It has more in common with a game like Marble Madness than any Monster Rancher game.

The whole goal of the game is to move your monster from one end of the track to the other.  The faster you do it, the more points you get.  It is not a race as you are alone on the track, but getting fast times is a part of it.  At first you will choose from one of four creatures to race.  They will be familiar to anyone who has played the Monster Rancher games.  You then head straight and try to get to the end as fast as possible.  Pretty simple really.

(Go forward young man!)

While you can move faster by going forward and slow down by moving back, you will soon find that it is not the best idea to just zoom through levels.  The first obstacle you will encounter is holes in the road.  Fall in one and you lose a guy.  It is easy enough to just move around them.  But there are enough other obstacles to cause you grief.  There are arrows that will move you in that direction, sometimes into a hole.  There are bombs that send you flying and other stuff.  There are also good blocks you can jump on that give you points or let you move past all the bad blocks.  Then there are some levels that zig and zag.  If you do not slow down, you will be headed over the edge into oblivion.

(As you can see there are alot of different blocks to jump on or avoid)

The graphics are colorful and the music is whimsical.  But there is not enough to the game to keep your interest.  There is a two player race that can be fun, but you will soon find almost every level is similar.  Yes, you can go for faster scores, but I found after a few hours that I had seen it all and done it all.  But if you are a big fan of Monster Rancher, you may get more mileage out of it.
